Operation Paperclip brought more than 1,600 German scientists, engineers and technicians to the United States after World War II.
Run by the Joint Intelligence Objectives Agency, the program recruited rocket, aviation, chemical and medical specialists, some of them former Nazi Party or SS members.
Security files that would have blocked their entry were rewritten. The program took its name from the paperclips attached to the folders of the men selected.
